I keep hearing this song on WERS in the mornings while getting ready for work. It’s got that bluesy gospel thing happening, and if you know me at all, you know I adore it.
Soulsavers, or The Soulsavers Soundsystem, is a production and remix duo out of the UK. This song was written by the producers Rick Machin and Ian Glover, and features the distinctive raspy vocals of Mark Lanegan. You might be familiar with Lanegan if you ever listened to the cock rock stylings of Queens of the Stone Age, a band I have only negative associations with*. His voice does serve this song very well, and adds to its bereft tone.
“All The Way Down” is off Soulsaver’s third album Broken, which was released in 2009. The album hosts a shit-ton of notable guests such as Will Oldham (Bonnie “Prince” Billy), Gibby Haynes (of the notorious Butthole Surfers), Mike Patten (of the reason that Limp Bizkit happened, Faith No More) and Jason Pierce (Songs in A&E is sooo good).
After seeking out information on the band, I was having a hell of a time tracking down MP3 versions of their songs. I don’t get the feeling these guys are all that obscure, but “All the Way Down” was not a single off of Broken, so the track gets kind of buried in to their discography. The only track available on Spotify was “Rumblefish” off their debut album Tough Guys Don’t Dance**, and that was a song I found somewhat lacking, having more of a lulling “Cool Grooves” electronic vibe to it.
HOWEVER- My mad Google skillz prevailed, and I am now serving this song up to Tumblr and Spotify. enjoy.
*also, one kinda funny association- There was this bartender at the Milky Way who was a groupie for QotSA. She was a very loud woman who would fawn over my old roommate, and she had David Lee Roth’s autograph tattooed on her boob. Cool story, I know.
**Christopher Walken would disagree with you, jerks.
